BGC - Oral Fluid Testing FAQ

BGC - Oral Fluid Testing FAQs

Q: What is changing?

A: Starting January 1, 2024, there are some important drug testing regulations in Washington and California going into effect that may impact your business if you have a DFW policy. Read here to refresh yourself about the regulations.

To help you better navigate these changes, we are offering impacted customers two options:

  1. Transition to an Oral Fluid Testing Method using paper CCF
  2. Update your existing urine drug tests to use a new panel that excludes THC

If you are impacted, please contact your Account Manager, as soon as possible to get started with either option.

Note: Be sure your Drug Free Workplace (DFW) Testing Policy reflects what your new testing decision will be. We recommend you contact your legal team to ensure your policies are up to date.

Q: Who is impacted?

A: Candidates living in California or Washington.

Q: What do you need to do?

A: We are offering impacted customers two options:

  1. Transition to an Oral Fluid Testing Method
  2. Update your existing urine drug tests to use a new panel that excludes THC

In tandem with making this selection, you should ensure their Drug Free Workplace (DFW) Testing Policy reflects what your new testing decision will be.  We will not update policies on behalf of our clients.

The responsibility is on the client to select what type of testing they would like to do moving forward.

If opting to remove marijuana from current drug testing panel:

You will need to inform your Account Manager of your decision and the updated pre-employment screening package will be added to your account.

The package name and price will be communicated via your Account Manager.

If opting to adopt Oral Fluid Testing:

You will inform your Account Manager of this change and an updated pre-employment screening package will be added.  Pricing and package name(s) will be provided as well.

Upon package update completion, oral fluid swabs will need to be ordered and sent to the you directly.  The minimum order is 25 swabs. Your Account Manager will work with you to have the kits ordered and sent to you directly.

Depending on inventory, orders of swab kits are typically received within 7-10 business days.

*Important* Candidates will schedule their drug test (no change from current process), BUT will need to bring a swab kit to the collection site.  You must provide the candidate with the kit that has been shipped to you.

  • It is important that your candidate brings an oral fluid swab kit to the collection site. We cannot guarantee collection sites will have kits stocked.

QDo I need to supply the oral fluid swabs kit in advance and have my donors bring it to a site if they want to have collection performed at a collection site?

A: Yes

QDo any sites stock kits?

A: As of now, collection sites should not be relied on to have swabs in stock.

QWhat is the process for ordering oral fluid swab kits?

A: Once the new service and product has been added to the your account, and the # of kits needed has been indicated, your Account Manager will order the kits and have them shipped to you directly.  These kits and shipping will be billed to your account.

QWhat quantities can be ordered at once?

A: Minimum order is 25 kits. We are working on offering a smaller supply of 10 in the future.

QAnd what is the average time to fulfill an order of swab kits?

A: Depending on inventory, orders are received within 7-10 business days.
